This is a rare moment; Dave and Zal are still sleeping and I am hoping to very quickly write one more post before all awake. We need to tidy up Kendra's house and then will be off to the airport around 10:30 am. We will need to walk with all of our bags to find a taxi. Fingers crossed we find one quickly!!
Monday: Kendra took us to the Summer Palace...another elaborate hang out for the emperors and their wives.
Tuesday: Ian took us to the Temple of Heaven ~ beautiful! This is a place where the emperors offered sacrifices and prayers to the gods. I remember that being one of my favorite places the last time I was here. There's this circular "echo" wall.... Ian spoke to us in his regular tone of voice from one end of the wall and we heard him quite clearly from the other end. :)
Wednesday: Kendra and I had our sister spa and shopping day. It was pretty great; came home with a lot of loot. The day cost me just over $200!!! The boys hung out for the day....they bought sunglasses and played Catan...and ate at this bbq place where Zal frieked out at the waiter (he was Western). :(
Thursday: pretty laid back day. In the afternoon Ian and Kendra took us to 798: the art district. We even had a guided tour by one of Ian's friends! Pretty sweet!
Friday: the WALL! Kendra hired a driver from her school. "Tom" was awesome; he knew English really well....he took us to his "secret" entrance to the wall. It was an hour 1/2 hike (mostly on the wall) that we managed to do in 3 hours. hee! We took our time...lots of pics...snack...lunch...etc. It was a cooler day, which really put Zal in a happy mood, as the backpack is not his favorite hang out. The craziest thing ever about the experience was that we did not see ONE other person in those three hours. Wowsers!! The views we saw were spectacular...of course.
On the way back to Kendra's place we stopped to see her school....HUGE...it's like a university campus!
In the evening, Kendra and Ian invited a bunch of friends over to Kendra's place. Was great to meet their "ponos" (friends). Ian won the settlers game...which I'm sure you'll all be hearing about. :)
Saturday: Kendra and Ian left to Nepal. Dave, Zal, and I walked to a rest. for lunch, bought some groceries and then subwayed it up the Olympic Park....seeing the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. It was pretty fantastic...kept imagining what it would've been like during the Olympics!! The Chinese tourists were a little too crazy about Zal, so we finally stopped letting people take pics of him. It was a little much!! On the way back to Kendra's place we found a pizza rest. in the mall and managed to communicate that we wanted "take out." We had a nice relaxing supper here and then packed all of our stuff up!
Dave and Ian also got three piece suits made this week (not quite matching...colors are different). :) Hot!
And that is all...now time to finish tidying the house! See you soon, Mom and Dad Kent and Ian and Kendra!!!
